Hi all, it’s Erik from the “Technology Explained” Substack mailing list. It’s been a while. For some, this might even be the first mail you get after subscribing.
I decided to make this Substack more personal by calling it “Programming with Erik.” I renamed the accompanying publication on Medium too.
Medium changes
I got inspired by Medium. As you may have noticed, Medium is going through some changes. They intend to focus more on following and interacting with the writers instead of trusting their (somewhat flaky) algorithms.
We’ll see how this plays out. If you ask me, Medium is a great platform, and I support the direction they are taking. Medium allows writers to focus on writing instead of wasting time on marketing. With these recent changes, your best option is to follow me from my profile page to get notified of my latest articles on Medium.
Substack
Substack, the platform I’ve been using to send out these e-mails, allows writers to get paid too. The difference: a Medium subscription is a platform-wide subscription. Your $5/month is spread out over the articles you read (and some of it goes to Medium, off course). On Substack, you subscribe to a specific writer.
I enabled subscriptions on Substack. This means you can support me with a monthly or yearly subscription. It’s completely optional, so if you have a free subscription, don’t worry. You won’t get charged, and you will still get e-mails from me. If you do have a subscription, thank you.
If you want to support me with more than a ‘follow’ or ‘claps,’ by all means, subscribe. It allows me to write more articles for all of you. I currently don’t have much else to offer, but as more people start subscribing, I will start thinking of subscription-only benefits.
